This anthology is the first, and only collection of modern Japanese feminist literature.
This series includes 198 short stories by the best 92 female writers in Japan from the end of the 19th century to the end of the 20th century (about 120 years).
We have already had the Meiji Joryuu Bungaku Zenshuu; The Complete Collection of Japanese Women’s Literature during　the Meiji Period. However it was published in 1965, and there are only two volumes of women’s literature in this series.
Therefore this is the only collection of literature edited by feminists, and written from women’s point of view, including the essays for example; Raichou Hiratsuka “In the beginning, woman was the sun. An authentic person. Now she is the moon, a wan and sickly moon, dependent on another, reflecting another’s brilliance.” Also Akiko Yosano’s poem “The mountain-moving day is coming. I say so, yet others never believe. Only a while the mountain slept. In the past time all mountains moved in fire, yet you may not believe it. But believe all sleeping women are awoken and move just now”, and also short stories written by women.
There are so many women who sigh, get angry, cry, make decisions, advocate, act and fight in these literary works.
And we are sure that you will very much enjoy the interesting and wonderful world constructed by a wide variety of women.
